Adult Classes

We'd love to bring you the benefits of dance whether you're a complete beginner of any age, or if you danced till an adult an miss dancing. There's a range of day and evening classes to suit all abilities, and you can pay-as-you-go, or commit to a half-term or monthly payment for reduced rates. You'll benefit from dancing physically, mentally and emotionally through moving and expressing yourself through the music. Everyone's very friendly and there's no judgement of your level by us or the other pupils. Dance clothing is informal and there's a wide interpretation - some participants come straight from the office! Ballet is the best exercise for gaining strength and fitness and for ageing muscles. Tap is fun too, and the best to start with if you're older and very unfit and you're bound to make new friends.

Ballet

Thursday Ballet for complete beginners

We have Ballet for those who really don't know anything about Ballet on Thursdays fron 6.45-7.45pm. Be confident that you'll learn how to stand and use those muscles, the basic positions and movements, barre work, ports de bras (arm exercises), adage or slow movements and one or two allegro or dance steps each class. Everything is geared to YOUR level.

  • All ages

  • £12/session (£9 session if paid monthly £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, Wandsworth Road SW8 (near Lavender Hill)

Monday Ballet for Beginners/Improvers

A class for you if you've done a little Ballet before. (It doesn't matter how much). Some of the class have been coming for some time, so we don't explain the REAL basics, (such as that everything that's been done with one leg has to be repeated with the other). If you're a beginner and can't do Thursdays, this is still a good class for you as long as you tell me you're a beginner (and it isn't full)! You'll do a more demanding barre with more movements in the centre than the Thursday class.

  • All ages

  • £12/session (£9 per session if paid monthly £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, Wandsworth Road SW8 (near Lavender Hill)

Friday lunchtime Ballet - mixed levels

A not-too-fast class for those who've danced before, maybe as children, perhaps as adults. 12.30-1.30pm (though we usually start a few minutes late after conversations and end around 1.55pm)! If you want to refine your technique and work your body, we'll do a regular Ballet class with some floor work at the end. Suitable for ALL ages, but not complete beginners.

  • All ages

  • £12/session (£9 per session paid monthly £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, Wandsworth Road SW8 (near Lavender Hill)

Monday Ballet - experienced

A class for those who've reached Grade 5 plus, and are now doing a regular job, but miss dancing! 7.45-8.45pm, (but we usually finish a little later)! You'll get a regular ballet class with some choreography repeated each week to form a dance. (Performing in our younger students shows is strictly optional)!

  • All ages, 7.45-8.45pm

  • £12 session (£9 paid monthly £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, Wandsworth Road SW8 (near Lavender Hill)

Tap

Wednesday Adult Tap for Beginners

A fun class for beginners of all ages, 6.45-7.45pm. Learn basic Tap steps while having lots of fun dancing to music old and new - you can take ISTD popular Tap Tests, meant for those who start as adults if you like, and perform in our children's performances. (Strictly optional, we always need tea-makers too)! If you're any age, any size, any ability, we'd love to welcome you into our Tap family. Tap is a great stress-buster and a relaxed way to exercise if you haven't in a while

You can try in outdoor shoes before investing in Tap shoes, (though it's more fun with tap shoes), and then search eBay if funds are low. Any clothing is acceptable; some wear leggings and t-shirts, others trousers, (or even office clothes), it's up to you. You can also take part in the annual Children-in-Need Tapathon (optional), and we usually have a Christmas social event. If you;ve dnne other forms of dance, but not Tap, this is the class for you.

  • All ages, 6.45-7.45pm

  • £12 session (£9 per session paid monthly £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, Wandsworth Road, SW8 (near Lavender Hill)

Adult Tap, Wednesdays ( Experienced)

For those who've done Tap for a while as adults, or have got to approximately Grade 5 or above as children. If you aren't sure which class to come to, you can try both classes, or arrive halfway through the beginners' class at 6.45pm, and then stay to as much as you like of the second class when we'll go faster. You can perform in our Shows (strictly optional), enter ISTD Popular Tap Tests and take part in other events if you wish, or just come and Tap your troubles away!

  • All ages, 7.45-8.45pm (usually ends a little late)

  • £12 per session, (£9 paid monthly, £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, Wandsworth Road SW8 (near Lavender Hill)

Tap for Adults, Thursdays 2.30pm, Mixed Levels

This is the class for you if you're a beginner or improver. It's a smaller class, tailored to your level, with a variety of music from musicals, jazz and modern tracks. You can learn the Popular Tap Test syllabus, (optional entry if you aren't fussed about getting your certificate and medals), and perform if you want to - or just come for a Thursday afternoon blast! This photo is of Annie and her son Hugo, (who does our Grade 2 Tap class), who BOTH performed in this year's Tapathon. Annie has been doing Tap on Thursdays for a while now, and is now on Level 3!

  • All ages 18+, 2.30-3.30pm

  • £12 per session (£9 monthly payment of £27/half-termly £54)

  • Acacia School of Dance, 823 Wandsworth Road SW8 (near Lavender Hill)
